I’ve used DJI Pocket cameras before, so when I first heard that Insta360 was entering the vlogging camera space, I honestly expected another copycat product.
But after checking out the new Luna, I think DJI might finally have a proper problem.
The Luna is Insta360’s first dedicated vlogging camera and it clearly targets the popular DJI Osmo Pocket lineup.
And from what I’ve seen so far, Insta360 did not come to play.
The Luna comes in two versions:
Luna Pro
Luna Ultra
The Ultra version adds a second telephoto lens, giving users up to 6x lossless zoom and 12x digital zoom. That is a huge deal for creators who shoot travel videos, interviews or street content without carrying massive camera gear around.
What immediately stood out to me was the camera’s modular design.
The screen actually detaches from the body.
At first I thought it was just another unnecessary tech gimmick. Then I realized how useful it actually is.
You can place the camera somewhere, walk away from it, then use the removable screen as a remote monitor while recording yourself. The screen even has a built-in microphone and controls.
For solo creators, this changes everything.
The Luna also features AI subject tracking.
You simply double tap your face on the screen and the camera follows your movement automatically while keeping you centered in the frame.
Honestly, it starts feeling like you have your own cameraman.
And unlike many tiny cameras that struggle with image quality, the Luna packs a large 1-inch sensor with 10-bit color support and Insta360’s new I-Log profile for better editing flexibility.
The interesting part is that Apple, Google and other tech companies are also heavily investing in creator-focused smart devices right now.
Everybody wants to dominate the creator economy.
And companies are slowly realizing creators no longer want heavy setups. People want smaller gear. Faster editing. Better stabilization. Portable everything.
That is exactly where the Luna fits in.
Will it fully replace DJI? Probably not immediately.
But for the first time in a while, DJI genuinely looks challenged in the compact vlogging camera market.
And honestly, that competition is good for creators.
