An unnamed British rapper and a Russian dancer have reportedly been detained in Dubai after authorities allegedly discovered 17 kilograms of weed in luggage linked to their trip from Thailand.
According to multiple reports, the musician, said to be in his 30s, was initially released on bail before being detained again after fresh statements emerged during investigations.
The Russian woman, 29, has denied any involvement and claims the suitcase in question was checked in under her name without her knowledge or consent.
She reportedly told investigators she had travelled with the rapper from Thailand to the United Arab Emirates believing it was a short trip related to visa arrangements.
The woman, who had been living and working in Phuket, said she became uneasy after luggage arrangements were allegedly changed shortly before departure from Bangkok airport.
Authorities in Dubai later reportedly inspected the luggage and allegedly found sealed packages believed to contain weed.
Reports indicate both individuals were detained as investigations continue.
The Russian national has maintained her innocence and is said to be pushing for further forensic examinations, including fingerprint analysis and airport CCTV reviews, which she believes could support her account.
Her family is also reportedly seeking access to additional evidence as they await developments in the case.
The identity of the British artist has not been officially disclosed, and no formal conviction has been announced. Uradi News understands the alleged rapper’s name is Big Tobz.
Dubai and the wider UAE maintain some of the strictest anti-drug laws in the world, with severe penalties for possession, trafficking and smuggling-related offences.
Even small quantities can lead to lengthy legal consequences under local law.
For now, the fate of both the unnamed rapper and the Russian woman remains unclear as authorities continue their investigations.
The case has once again drawn attention to the risks travellers face when moving through countries with zero-tolerance drug policies, where even allegations can carry serious consequences.
